    Hey guys,

Right now I’m working on an effect were we see a mirror and mist appears as if a ghost was breathing on the mirror to reveal a secret message.

Well I’ve managed to do something that looks somewhat good, but I’m not 100% satisfied with the results. The part that gets me the most is the way the “breath” spreads across the mirror. Right now I just used a mask that expands coupled with a fractal noise to give the edge a bit of texture, but it just doesnt quite right.

Normally I would post what I’ve got, but do to a non-disclosure act, I can’t show anything. 🙁

Anyhow, does anyone have a tutorial or a suggestion on how to achieve the effect of a Breathing on a mirror?

Hmm … first, I’d shoot a visual (real-world) reference, then attempt to match it in AE. Do you have a reference?

By the way, you could show us your technique on an image of Bessie the COW, for instance, since I don’t think your technique would be under NDA.

Try Stylise > Rough Edges then add some blur.

    Play with the settings.
