  • How to set up my After Effects

Hey I’m new to After Effects and I’m really excited to start using it.

I know how with programs like this you need to set it up correctly, for example, I don’t have a “mode” area in my time line. So I can’t figure out how to set normal or screen etc.

Also can some give me a simple beginner’s tutorial for me to do?

    Thanks

After Effects is a huge application to learn, but a fun trip. I would highly recommend reading the manual. It is not that I don’t want to help, au contraire, but there is quite a lot to know to get the benefits from this package.

You do have a mode on your timeline…it is just hidden 🙂 There are icons at the bottom left corner of the timeline….one of the three activates the modes view….

Before trying tutorials, I strongly suggest reading the manual and playing with the software. Learn keyframing and basics (spatial and temporal etc), once you feel confident with that, then move onto playing with the filters.

After Effects is a fun ride. I have been using it since version 4.1 (6 or 7 years) and I still learn new things every week.

    Good luck

Have you tried a web search for AE tutorials? There’s lots of them out there. Plenty here on the COW too.

Thanks, I’ll see what I can do with the manuall. I just don’t like them becasue of all the READING!

I had done some work in it.

Like green screen, terrible looking light sabers and super imposing eyes and a mouth talking on a cabbage. But of course that was with a pro that helped a lot.

Yea but I don’t have the right plug ins/ set up to do it.

Like I tried a color bleach bypass, like what they use to make WWII movies look cool, but I didn’t have the right set up to do it.
