How to set 1 second fade in/out on all media automatically when added to the timeline

There is no way to set an automatic fade.

My advice would be to get the VASST Event Tool plug-in. With one click it will add fades to all of your selected events and a whole lot more. What would have taken hours will literally take seconds.

That worked perfectly thank you. Another question; I have a bunch (100+) images that I want to span for 10 seconds each on the video stream. Is there a way to make them all the same length on the same stream? Can I copy the properties of 1 image and apply it to all the others?

Sorry about the questions, I’m not a pro. I saved up for 4 years to be able to afford Vegas, and this is mostly for home projects.

I see 3 Options for you:-

OPTION I:

If you now have the VASST Event Tool,

1] Selection Tab : Select All Events > APPLY

2] Adjustment Tab : Adjust Selected Event Length to 00:00:10.00 > APPLY

3] Transition Tab : Change the “Length” to ZERO > APPLY

All Stills will now be at 10 seconds.

OPTION II

If you DON’T have the VASST Event Tool and DON’T yet have your Stills on the Timeline,

1] Main Toolbar > Options > Preference > Editing Tab

2] And adjust “New Still image length ” to 10:-

Drag Stills to Timeline, job done!

OPTION III

If you ALREADY have Stills on timeline then create a Group of ALL the Stills and use the Ctrl+Drag method to stretch stills to the required length.

Are you trying to make a photo montage? You might want to get VASST Still Motion. It will let you lay out your images of any length with fades, pan/scan motion, match aspect, etc.

Here is a tutorial of Ultimate S Lite which has even more capabilities but the basic photo montage is very similar:

Oh yea true, that wasn’t totally manual. I was just trying to look at the bigger picture of what he was actually trying to accomplish rather than answering all of the little questions that might have been answered had he asked, “What’s the fastest way to make a photo montage in Vegas?”. 😉
