How to SAFELY downconvert from JH-3 to DV25?
Somewhere on the 2-pop forum I saw scary posts that the timecode and frame cadence in the JH-3 downconvert to DV25 over firewire was faulty at timecode breaks, costing an editor lots of heartache and money.
For those (the one) of you who has been following my saga, I’ve got a film shot on 23.97 HDCAM that I need to edit with firewire drives on a 23.97 timeline in an Avid Express Pro HD. It seems with Avid I have two options, either edit anamorophic DV25 (which means dealing with 3:2 pulldown issues, and a faulty JH-3 downconvert), or DNxHD which is beautiful but huge…. and something one cannot capture with a Mojo. (Come on, Avid, think FCP and Decklink!) As far as I can tell, for an HD solid 24 fps option (if there is some way in the world I could capture), DNxHD is the ONLY format I can edit in, right? There is no such thing as like 30:1 offline HD etc., and no way to import a file as HD to anything other than DNxHD. Is that right?
Is it possible to make DV25 downconverted media copies from DNxHD OMF files (it would be nice to be able to go to the DNxHD media for special effects). HEY In line with that…. ***Know anybody who can affordably capture HDCAM tapes to harddrives as DNxHD into Avid bins?**
Anyway, as always, any guidance….
