  • How to resize the composition window with 2 views independently in AE7?

Posted by Manny Rellesiva on February 13, 2006 at 2:58 pm

Im using After fx 7.0 on Win Xp pro. I have 3D layers in my composition. For me to align the layers easily, I switched the composition window into 2-views: the first window/view is set to “Active Camera” and the second view to “Custom View” or sometimes “top view” etc.

I noticed that the composition window always divides the 2 views equally when you resize any of the window. What I want is for the 1st view (set to “Active Camera”) to be smaller than the 2nd view (set to custom view”). When I adjust the size of the second view, the 1st view also resizes, thus both windows/views have the same size. On After effects 6.5, you can resize the composition windows independently. Is there a way to do this in After effects 7.0? Maybe im missing something…pls advise.

Moreover, is there a way for the composition window to be undocked. When I switched to “Undocked Panels” under the Workspace pull-down menu, only the info, audio and effects&presets panels float or undock.is there a way for the composition to “float” or undock just like the info and audio panels do? The thing is, when you move the composition window, it tends to dock with the project or timeline panel. Is there a way for it to “float” infront of the other panels?

did you try ‘new comp viewer? then you can dock the new comp view to any corner and create your custom views and save the workspace. I saw it at a demo

Yepp, new viewers are the way to go. If you open up multiple views in one viewer they are always linked. It’s not quite clear at first sight and a bit incoherent in terms of implementation. Maybe it’s changed in a future release.

Thanks. with “new viewer” i can resize the window comps independently. However, is it possible for this new composition window not to be docked? I just want it to “float” which means I could position it even on top of the Timeline window or project window, just like AE6.5. Is it possible?
