I had a video idea and i wanted to know how i can achieve a sketch like effect simular to this. But I wanted to keep my human characters as in real people to look normal(in color not sketch like ) accept have the texture of paper like at times have rough paper edges and move funny and go from 2d to 3d. Any idea how I could achieve this? It’s an effect I want to do. I’d also like my backgrounds to feel this way too.

    or… ToonIt! or…

You can use what most would do first… use the SEARCH button… and, find other ways mentions in prior post…there are even ways which don’t even use AE…. but, does use PhotoShop.

This can be simple-ish or complicated… lot depends upon what kind of effect you want.

This is a common question… that using keywords “Cartoon Effet” would yield many results.

If you’re on a Mac, you might want to check out Studio Artist, does exactly what you want.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Paper cuts?

Do you mean outline mattes created with the roto-scoping technique?

Im trying to put it in words. I shoot somebody normal but they have a white paper outline like they were torn out paper.

Using the search button in either AE or this site using keywords – Roto-scope, Rotoscope or Rotoscoping and/or auto trace, you will find out how to do what you are attempting.

You will find that what you want to do is very time consuming and requires lots of patients and experience to get correct.

Unless the video is prepared properly for creating a matte using auto trace and/or rotoscoping, it could actually be impossible to do within a reasonable period of time.

On the other hand, personally I use Mocha software application to solve many of the problems associated with roto-scoping… this SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the time required and makes many impossible rotoscoping situations possible.
