How to replace an already trimmed clip on the storyline with a compound clip?
I’ve gotten myself it a bit of a jam and was hoping there is an easy fix (don’t we always): 😉
I’m editing dance competition videos and I decided to replace the recorded video from my camera with the feed I got from the sound board. I selected both the video and audio for each dance and chose Synchronize Clips and got a perfect match. Then I adjusted the music volume, trimmed a bit of video off of the clip to tighten up the show timing and added it to my primary story line, edited in some titles and was very pleased with the results. I am totally blown away with how good Synchronize Clips is working.
The problem is I didn’t start out this way. I have a number of dances that I didn’t synchronize with the audio feed and now they are trimmed and in place and I just want to make a synchronized clip and replace the original on the storyline. The problem is, FCP X won’t keep the trimming! If I add the new clip as an Audition it starts at the beginning of the clip, not where I trimmed from. This means I will have to go back and re-trim all of the dances that I’ve edited already. What I really want to do is just have FCP X use the synchronized clip instead of the original clip.
Is there any way to replace a clip on the primary story line that has been trimmed with a clip of equal length and keep the trimming?
