Hi all, I’m trying to export a .obj file from Fusion 360 to Cinema 4D, but when I did so I noticed that the surface polygons were all over the place. When I try to apply a texture to the object using UVW mapping I get the results below:

When I apply the texture using shrink wrapping I can get a little better:

But still not what I want. I also noticed that the areas to which the red texture gets applied with uvw mapping don’t seem to be special based on the mesh.

Any help would be appreciated, I’m looking for some way to remesh the object to make the polygons more uniform

It’s odd that Fusion 360 doesn’t export a proper UV layout. Have you checked to make sure the polygon normals are aligned (all facing out)?

Unfortunately Cinema doesn’t have tool to automatically retopologize an object like this. Your best bet may be to export an IGS file and bring it into another program that does a better job translating to polygon formats. A lot of people like Moi 3D for this and I think they have a demo you can try. I use Rhino myself.

Oh thats an interesting thought. I’ll check out moi 3D, as it doesn’t seem like theres an easy way of working with normals in F360
