How to put a photo of a person into a cube in after effects
Posted by Luis Garcia on March 23, 2018 at 8:01 amHi! I would like to create a cube in element 3d and put a photo of me into the cube (in wire frame). The cube will be any movement with an expression, and I would like that my photo seems in the center of the cube. I don´t know how I could do this.
Thanks in advance!

March 23, 2018 at 12:07 pmI’ll start believing that you already know how to create a cube and set it to wireframe and how to position the photo in the particle origin.
To make the photo look like its inside it, you’ll need to have three instances of Element, one for the masking (used as a luma matte) and two others to “sandwich” the photo.
The one for masking should have its output changed to world position.
There are several tutorials encompassing that in VideoCopilot’s page.

March 23, 2018 at 12:17 pmHi! Thanks for your answer I almost have understood it, so I don´t know what means:
“one for the masking (used as a luma matte) and two others to “sandwich” the photo.” Have I to mask the photo, haven´t I?
I am afraid that I haven´t understood this very well…. Sorry if you could tell me something more I will appreciatte it
Thanks in advance!

March 23, 2018 at 1:18 pmYou don’t need to mask the photo, You have to mask the cube that is supposed to be in front of your photo (in your timeline), so that its back won’t obfuscate the photo.
You can also create a wireframed cube in a 3d app and import it. Then you could literally place the photo inside it, all within one E3D layer. There will be no need to mask anything in that case.

March 23, 2018 at 5:32 pmEN: Is the cube modeled already like a wireframe or are you going to use E3d’s wireframe mode?
ES: ¿El cubo ya está en wireframe? ¿O va a utilizar el modo de wireframe de Element?

March 23, 2018 at 8:16 pmEN: If you model in a 3d app, you don’t need to use masks. All you need is to import the mesh and put the photo inside a plane in E3d.
ES: Si lo hace en una aplicación 3d, no es necesario utilizar máscaras en AE. Sólo tienes que importar la malla y un plano y aplicar la foto como textura.
