  • how to obtain lost save project files?

i am using fcp5. at one point i filled up a hd and deleted several capture scratch files that i was not using. in doing this i lost a lot of work i was doing on another file. it seems like the project reverted a status several months ago. in the past i was able to go to the autosave vault and re open a more recent version of the project. when i do this now i still get a very old project. i tried to open many different autosave files and they all take me to the same place plus i get a general error window. then i tried revert project numerious times and this always takes me to the same place. am i screwed? anyway to get back to my last edits? how many times can you do revert project? anyway to tell the date of where i currently am? thx in advance

If your current project is gone, and your most current Autosaves are gone, I don’t see what you can do. Those are your main project and backups. If they are hosed, then…well…

The autosaves are dated and time stamped, so you just need to open the latest one. But, as I said, if it is gone, or doesn’t have the most current stuff you did, then you are out of luck.

I hope someone proves me wrong. I love being corrected at times like this.

Those editors that don’t religiously back up their files on their own (e.g. not relying on Auto-Save to CYA) to a place besides their computer (internet, USB stick) and on a daily basis will eventually get screwed in this regard.

Back that project up guys. Every day at the very least.

thx for the responses. i did back up every hour or more, but i would always overwrite the existing file. i now see it is best to “save as” and change the file to the date it is being saved.
