  • How to nest sequences with different frame rates ?

Posted by Ariel Brener on December 27, 2009 at 1:07 am

    Hello,

    I edited a intro seq 1080i 29.97 with a lot of tracks

I wand to add the edited intro to a 720 24P seq.

So I wanted to copy paste the intro clips to a 720 24P seq and place
that seq in the 720 24P seq.

I have noticed that when I copy a video clip from a seq with 29.97 frame rate

to a seq that is set to 720 24P
    it gets off sinc!!!

    what do I do?

    How to nest a 1080i 29.97 seq in a 720 24P seq??

I don’t think you’re going to be happy with any of the possible workarounds. One is to render the upstream sequence as a self-contained movie and bring it back into the project.

First of all thanks David for replaying..

    MAN FCP is killing me.

I can’t believe that its like that – Premiere CS4 is so much versatile… not to mention its ADOBE integration…

I need to sententiously have a chat with the developers…

FCP is stable – but common so many essential things are missing…
and Premiere Pro – which suppose to be the replica of FCP – is topping all of that…

Too bad its not as steady as FCP.

Here is a small blowing out steam list that is getting bigger as I continue learning FCP.

    • No way to Nest Sequences with different frame rates!
    • No way to zoom in canvas timeline (only in audio)
    • No audio Pitch Shift During fast\slow motion
    • No Audio automation options
    • No Search for markers! in project window!
    • no work area

You might give CS4 a try with your new rig if you have purchased it already. I’ll point out that CS4 offers substantial stability when given the right amount of memory. I’ll also mention that Premiere Pro uses all of your CPU cores and can address the memory… Check your activity monitor (applications/utilities/activity monitor) when running FCP7.

    Hello Dennis,

Well the reason I started using FCP for this big HD Documentary was because I already got the footage captured into FCP project.
Also I have heard that FCP is “more professional”

I don’t know – I guess I thought that it will give me more options – because its PRO –

But you tell me – all the professional studios work with either FCp or AVID – Premiere is for semi-pro? am I correct?

I’m an Adobe guy, so chances are my opinion is biased. 😉 I monitor this forum once in a while to help people with Apple/Adobe based issues and workflow.

All NLE’s like FCP, Avid and Premiere Pro are tools. They’ve all got their strengths and weaknesses. Certainly all three you mentioned would be considered Pro, though Premiere Pro is considered the third of these by most users. Clearly Adobe wants to change that which is why Adobe has announced the next version of Premiere Pro will be 64 bit native and announced the Mercury Playback engine. You can find out more of the latter at this link: https://blogs.adobe.com/genesisproject/2009/11/technology_sneek_peek_adobe_me.html

Back to your issue: one of the strengths of Adobe Premiere Pro is that it can mix and match different codecs better than the other two. Since I’m including links try this: https://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-beginner-classes-with-dennis-radeke/episode-15-the-incredible-playback-demo/

Good luck with your documentary in FCP – I’m sure it will turn out great.
