So I’m pretty new to Premiere in general, having finally been forced out of FCP 7 because of my new FS7 camera’s codec. I just got a new 4K monitor connected to my IMac 5K Retina machine via thunderbolt, and my question is:

Am I correct in my finding that there is no way to monitor a 4K timeline on my second 4K monitor just through the machine’s graphics card?

The monitor is connected to the IMac and it is running as a second monitor in UHD, but I cannot get PP to output to it when I select it as an option in the “Playback” preferences window.

It appears I will need to buy a thunderbolt 4K monitoring solution from AJA or Black Magic, but those are currently $1K or more right now and I was hoping to avoid that.

What say you all? How are you guys and gals monitoring your 4K timelines in 4K out of Premiere?

If you want monitoring the “correct” way then an interface is required.

    I’m using a Kona3g for 4k monitoring.
