I’ve just finished this fish-animation. This animation is to be placed on top of some video footage we shot earlier this week (multiplied and a bit transparent, so it will look like the animation is written on the wall situated behind the actors).

Since we still have a lot of video-shooting to do, we won’t have enough time to draw all the frames one by one. Because of this, the animation doesn’t look smooth enough. Is there a simple way to let after effects calculate the frames in between, or just automatically create a simple dissolve transition between every two drawings? It’s probably a very simple solution, but I don’t know enough about the program to find it myself and wasn’t able to find it in the helpfile either. Thanks alot in advance!

One thing, don’t know if it matters, but all the drawings are vector-files, imported from illustrator, so I don’t know if there’s an easy way to make some kind of morphs between the different frames.

yeah — the reason it’s looking choppy is that you have duplicate frames. Maybe try cutting out all the duplicate frames and then use AE’s time remap to slow back down. This will add some motion blur and frame blending which might… MIGHT help.

If I was you, i would use flash for the smoothest results. After Effects isnt really the best program for fluid animation like that, unless you think you can just use the brush tool and fill some frames in or something.
