  • How to make Text untransparent

I used one of the book templates to lay out a book I am working on. And now every time I apply a heading or body style it turns my text white. No amount of energy spent changing the character color in the style or directly on the text seems to make the style set the character color to black. In fact if I change the character color in the document to black and then open the paragraph styles it shows no plus next to the style, but if I reapply the style it once again returns the character to white. This seems really broken and does anyone know how to fix this?
