How to make Splatters
Posted by Manny Rellesiva on July 1, 2006 at 11:36 amHow do i make a splatter? I’ve created splatter as an image in photoshop but when I animated it by masking it, it didnt look natural. What I want to accomplish is for the splatters (like in wet paint) to drip naturally. However, masking it didnt seem to make it look like one. Are there any plugins for this effect? Please advise.

July 1, 2006 at 12:12 pmI recently created some ink splatters for a project. Entirely in the spirit of Bogiesan (in-joke for Cow veterans – which isn’t the same as veterinarians mind you) I fixed a video camera pointing downwards, and dropped ink on wet paper…
It required a bit of tweaking in post to get the right contrast, and I played with time-remapping a little to adjust the speed of the flowing ink. But they came out better than I would be able to animate, and in less time.

July 1, 2006 at 2:00 pmfor a quick solve i’d use a photoshop ‘splatter’ brush and then use simple choker in ae to animate rather than a mask. probably scaling a bit at the same time. otherwise filiming the true thing is clearly a good option
