  • How to make shapes/text explode in different directions?

I’m trying to make these letters go off screen as if someone is pushing them from the middle outwards:

What would be the best way of doing this? I’ve tried hand-animating, but it doesn’t look natural.

(Side note: The letters are individual images I created in photoshop and brought in as .png’s)

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks 🙂

You can do that using the shatter effect.

I’ve run into a bit of a problem, it’s splitting the inside and outside:

I believe Andrew Kramer has a tutorial relating to shattering somewhere on his website?

Is each letter two files? That could be your problem. The plugin is randomly scattering everything.

I’d find a way to bind them together if so – precomp each letter, for instance. Or do a set of PNGs where the white stroke and the inner color are one file.

I found out that shatter uses alpha channel to calculate the shatter, so as soon as I duplicated the comp, and made the second comp a solid red (instead of white+red), it worked perfectly.

But thanks for your help, I really appreciate it 🙂
