    Hello,

I am learning about Adobe After Effects. I have a project at college wherein I wish to make music notes fall like rain around a person. My first thought was that I would have to key frame each fall separately – to achieve the “randomness” of rain, instead of just one sheet of music notes falling down.

    Is there an easier option?

i would use trapcode particular, you can make custom particles(your music notes) and you don’t have animate each one, you can do alot with randomness and size over time, also gravity, if you don’t want to get a plugin you can use the wiggler to achieve some randomness after you have done your initial keyframes

If you don’t have Trapcode, the particle systems that come with AE 7 can be useful too. In one of them (I can’t remember which right now) you can choose an image as a particle and then just play with the gravity/velocity/etc. parameters. To make it look 3D you can create a couple different layers of particles and place them forward and backward in z-space.

You could click on Dan’s head above and scroll down to “Building a 3D Particle Generator”, then sub in your notes for Dan’s Snowflakes, then disable the snowflakes rotation expressions.
