  • How to make Ninja’s 1080 60i back to original EX1R’s 23.98 1080p?

Posted by Kent Beeson on September 3, 2011 at 6:45 am

Recorded on an ATOMOS Ninja from SONY EX1R…camera set to 23.98fps 1080p recorded to Ninja over HDMI, which wraps the 23.98 signal to an interlace 60…Can cinema tools (or what?) make this back to 23.98 progressive as sent from camera and how to do it…or better way?

    Thanks

What codec does the Ninja record to? If it’s a long GOP MPEG-based/interframe codec, you will first need to convert it to an intraframe codec like Apple Pro Res 422 before you can remove the pulldown in Cinema Tools.

In Cinema Tools, you can open a 1080i/29.97 clip with 3:2 pulldown, then specify the A frame and remove the 3:2 pulldown.

Set the SDI port to 23:98 I believe it is within the genlock menu

Sadly the NINJA is HDMI only, and records whatever a camera sends it through HDMI, so EX1R sends a 1080 60i signal out of HDMI even though I’ve got 1080 23.98p set…so I do have to reverse telecine the thing – I need the 1080 60i record to unwrap to original 23.98p…so do I use cinema tools? I need it to be progressive, 23.98 and no degradation.

And the NINJA records to any flavor of PRO RES you want – I always choose Pro Res HQ.

Alan – I tried Cinema Tools – not so good, still interlaced and now 190mbps instead of the interlaced master’s 220mbps – and I need it to be 23.98 and progressive, how to do, what to choose on below menus?

Or is COMPRESSOR better? What to choose so there’s no degradation?
