    My goal is to save a raster image that looks like what I see in View > Outlines. The file is .ai. I have Illustrator 10. I am a beginner.

    It’s easier to take a screenshot, if you must have it saved from illustrator, then use a thin black stroke, export as jpg, tif or png and turn off antialiasing, then in Photoshop increase contrast so you get the jagged edges you see in outline mode again.
