  • How to make a layer 3d on the current position?

Posted by Allard Depallerd on November 1, 2011 at 11:36 am

    Hey guys!

Let’s say im in a 3d space and have been moving the camera around…on a certain position in time and space..I want to add a text layer (e.g.).. this layer needs to be 3d, so i make it 3d. However.. when I do this.. the layer position switches back to 0,0,0 (which makes sense off course).

Is there any way to make the layer 3d and KEEP the current position in time and space?

Because now I have to copy the position of a similar object (location wise) and paste it to my new layer. (cause doing it manually over 40000 pixels is tedious)…

    thanks in advance!

I would recommend making use of the rulers and guides on this one. Crack open the ruler and drag out some guides from the rulers at top and bottom to help you know where you want the piece to end up.

Other options are to make use of parenting the new object to one you have already positioned and setting all of it’s position and rotation to 0,0,0, and that will align it smack on the object already out there in 3d pace and you’ll have less distance to move it.

Also if you are finding dragging things around takes a long time hold shift to go further faster.

    Hope that helps.
