  • How to make a global text layer – change one layer + others affected

I need to place a bunch of lower 3rd title names on a 40 min project.
There’s only a few people that are in the cut, so I will be having the same title popping up in different areas on the timeline.

The people’s titles may change, so I was wondering if there’s a way to make 1 1 master text clip, place it’s “children” all over the timeline and I need to change a title, can I just edit the one text clip and have it globally change all the connected text clips?

If you are using FCP 6, you might want to check out “Working With Master Templates”, on page III-493. Its a way of using Motion Templates within FCP, so that when you make changes it updates in all instances. Have’t tried it yet, and it may not do exactly what you want, but its worth a read. Looks pretty powerful.
