How to log without tapes?
Hi all,
I am pretty new to FCP – about a year, was on Avid for 15 years. I can’t figure out how to take my producer’s timecode notes and type the timecodes into FCP, and then insert the tapes at a later date to batch. Is there any way i can log clips without the tapes inserted in the deck? I’ve been trying and the ‘log & capture’ window is not cooperating.

You can log into an Excel spread sheet, and then import that into Final Cut Pro as a Batch List and batch capture from that information.

First, make sure you use an Easy Setup that matches the tape format and frame rate. The ‘Log and Capture’ window can sometimes appear different depending on the format chosen.
Once you’re sure of that, yes, just use Log and Capture. After you type in the ins and outs, click the “Log Clip” button. It should make a clip with a red line through the icon.
Have you done that and it’s not working? Or is that not what you were doing?

Yes that was it – works perfectly. The in & out buttons and the distorted green screen (with no tape inserted) were confusing me. I’m logging away now. Thanks a bunch!
