  • how to handle m2v and mpg2 files in Prem pro??

A while back i did a prem project and made 10 minute m2v and wav file from the project which i took to encore and made a dvd..now a year later i have to revise the project so i imported the m2v and wav files into prem pro and the behaviour of the files is so finicky…every time i try to render or export as an avi file the rendered files are exhibiting erratic behaviour…some frames of the file pop on out of order and so on…
so i finally converted the whole file to an mpg2 file within prem pro using the built in media encoder and i was able to export that back to tape successfully..

however..now i brought the mpg file to my other machine and brought it into prem pro and it again exhibits quirky rendering…and the funny thing is it plays perfectly in windows media player..it also plays perfectly in the prem pro preview window but not in the timeline window…somehow the rendering is killing the file…any ideas..thanks

    more information…this is very eerie…
when i import the m2v file and wav file back into encore…they play beautifully and synchronize perfectly….
now when i import the same two files into prem pro…the wav file is the proper length..about 11 minutes..but the m2v file is only about 7 minutes…prem pro has shortened it!!

    what is going on here…
    any info would be appreciated…

PPro just doesn’t work well with MPEG on the timeline unless you have the Main Concept plugin…and even then it isn’t going to be anywhere near DV responsiveness.

I’d convert the file to a DV clip first. Got a friend with ProCoder?
