Is there a way to get a Varicam to record DVCPROHD files to a Firestore? Anyway to avoid tape?

We don’t want to rent a deck and have tons of material to record. We’d like to record the HDSDI directly to hard drive. Any ideas?

The Firestore is a Firewire based recorder. It won’t work with the Varicam, but it will work with the HDX-900.

I don’t think there are any SDI-HD based handheld recorders. You could always use a Laptop with an AJA ioHD box, but you’d also need outboard storage, not really portable, but do-able in the studio.

One thing you might look at is the P2 Mobile. This device can take the HD-SDI from the Varicam and record it to just about any format you want, including P2.

    cheers
