How to get a film look?
Posted by Anandabrata Ghosh on July 16, 2007 at 8:16 pmHi,
I have a digital footage and it is from a low end video cam. I was wondering is there a way that a digital footage could look somewhat like a film.
Need suggestions.

July 16, 2007 at 10:50 pmthere are loads of things you can do… you should search the cow archives and also google for suggestions … you will find lots and lots … also search for deinterlacing …
if you are still stuck then ask again … good luck!

July 17, 2007 at 7:04 pmwhen shooting there are a few things to consider…
you would normally like to have the shutter speed to be about half of your frame rate, so when you deinterlace your footage the amount of motion blur will be close to what you would get with a normal shutter angle in film.
also, you may want to consider shooting with a rather shallow depth of field. this is fairly common in film when to get a higher quality (less grainy) image you need to use a slower film and need to open the apperature more to compensate. you can’t get a slower tape, but you can get neutral density filters to allow you to maintain a slow shutter speed and a wide apperature.

July 18, 2007 at 2:56 pmHi,
I learnt how to interlace. Now the footage looks so much cleaner. Ofcourse nothing close to a film but then I can’t be greedy as a novice.
Appreciate your help.

Anand
