How to get a black & white grainy look in CS3
Hi,
I am making a music clip and want part of it to have the feel of an old black and white movie.
Does anyone know the best setting to use to get this effect?
I shot the clip on a Canon XH-A1 camera, so obviously on HD digital it can’t look exactly like film, but perhaps there is an effect which can approximate it.

For the black and white look, you can simply desaturate using the Hue and Saturation effect, then use Levels or Curves to cruch some of the blacks and / or slightly overexpose the whites.
For dust and scratches, there are plugins you can buy (Boris comes to mind), but I find the best looking ones are actually the real stuff.
You could look at istockphoto for white dusty reels, there are tons of them, and overlay them on top of your video. White is best in that case.

Desaturate your footage and use the built-in Noise filter in Premiere to add noise to your clip (un-check Use Color Noise).
