How to find dupe negative in Final Cut??
Posted by John Graves on May 5, 2005 at 9:23 pmI have a 35mm feature cut with some reused footage. What Final Cut command can I use to find the dupe negative — i.e. duplicated footage??

May 5, 2005 at 10:02 pmI’m on an Avid today, but I believe there is “Automatic Dupe Detection” setting in your sequence settings. You can right-click (CTRL-click) your sequence to get to it’s settings. There may also be that option in the pop-up menu in the lower left corner of your timeline (looks like a little arrow I think).
Hope this helps.-Todd Beabout

May 6, 2005 at 12:27 amOK, here’s what I found this afternoon in FCP 4.5 HD. The export command provides the option.
File>Export>Cinematools film lists
include the following checked item: dupe list
CLick OK to save under your specified directory.Fine so far.
But then I get a dialogue box that asks:
“Where is the Cinematools database?”
I see a Cinematools Icon in the folder, but it is greyed out. It is only an application, not a database.
HOw can I access the Cinematools database??

May 6, 2005 at 2:38 amIf you go into user preferences under the Final Cut Pro HD menu, then to timeline options, then you can select in the box Track Display show duplicate frames.
If you want to find duplicate frames using Cinema Tools, then all your media files (quicktime source files) that you used to edit in final cut will have to be connected to database records in Cinema Tools.
check this reference for an overview:

May 6, 2005 at 3:53 pmHey wait a minute, in the FCP 4.5 manual VOL 1, I see on pg 499 “keep track of duplicate frames”. This is all I need to get me well started with handling dupe negative.

May 6, 2005 at 8:14 pmBut…it doesn’t work. NO color bar indicating dupe frames is visible at the bottom of the video segment in the timeline…??? I can’t figure out how to get this dupe frame indicator to work…
