How to export multiple small clips from a single long clip?
I’m pretty new to Premiere, and entirely self-taught, so sorry if this is a really basic question. I’m pretty sure the way I’ve been doing this is very inefficient, and I’m trying to improve my workflow.
I’m working on a project where I need to export multiple small clips from a single long clip of an interview. What is the best way to do this in Premiere?
What I’ve been doing is:
1. Move the long interview clip into the timeline
2. Use the Razor Tool to cut the interview clip into multiple, smaller clips
3. Either (a) moving each smaller clip onto it’s own track, then hiding all the tracks except the one I want to export, and exporting it. Or, (b) keeping all the smaller clips on the same track, and using Cntrl + X to temporarily cut all the smaller clips except one to export. Then, I export the clip that’s left. Next, I delete the clip I just exported, and paste the other clips I just cut from the timeline back into the timeline, rinse and repeat.Thanks in advance for your help!!

You can mark IN and OUT points and the Export IN to OUT – no need to chop up your work.

I have a couple questions about this, if you have time:
– How do you export in to out?
– In the smaller clips, I sometimes need to cut out small bits (like someone saying “umm”, for instance). For this, would I simply mark “in” at the beginning of the clip, “out” at the start of where I need to cut, then “in” again where I want the clip to resume, then “out” at the end of the clip?Again, thank you so much for your help!

You can set a single In and a single Out point on any piece of media or on a sequence.
So you set the In & Out for the first interview, with the “ummms” cut out, etc., then File > Export
Once the export is done, you do the same for the second and so on. -

Hi Jackie,
On the timeline, you can use the “I” and “O” shortcuts to mark IN and OUT points at the playhead, or use the brackets below Program monitor using mouse to select. Then in Export Settings, check Source Range at the bottom and you can choose Sequence In/Out for the export range, rather than Entire Sequence.

If you’ve actually cut the clips you can turn them into subclips (cmmd/ctrl U) then highlight all those in the Project Panel and export them all at once.
Or
Take the long clip into Prelude and just mark all the sections you want as subclips then export those the same way. No cutting required. The benefit of this is that the master clip will retain that metadata so no when you load that big clip you’ll be able to easily have access to everything you’ve already marked.
