  • How to Export Audio for use in Pro Tools? (CS3)

Posted by Nathan Quattrini on July 29, 2008 at 7:48 pm

I know Premiere can`t export OMF (another strike against them), but I need to find a way to get my short films audio to a Pro Tools audio guy in another state so he can work on it. Are there any ways to accomplish this?

Did you consider exporting the audio?

You would have to use the AAF export in that case. Make sure you save first, I’ve seen a couple of crashes happen at that point. And if you use P2, it’s a bit more complicated because of the MXF files. Do a Google search, there are plenty of threads explaining the workaround.

    Good luck…

You can export each audio layer from start to finish, each clip should end up the same size and length. Audio aint so hungry for MBs so it’s not so bad. Keep the files as WAVs or AIFFs.

How do I do that? The only options in Export Audio are QT and AIFF. Also what is an EDL?

Here’s a thread that explains a workaround if you are working in P2.

Otherwise, AAF should work natively as long as you have one of the later versions of Protools.

ugh, didn’t know you were on a Mac. A bit too new maybe, I’m sure they’ll be working on it since it’s quite an important feature.

I do feel your pain though, going to Protools without it is going to take a while.

Perhaps you should install Premiere CS3 on a PC (trial version) and do the export there… I here you can also install Windows on a Mac these days.
