how to export a small section of the timeline- not the whole thing?
Hi Guys
I don’t want to export the whole timeline ,just a 10 second shot out of hours of footage on the timeline.
In fcp I would just set in and out points then export…cant get that to happen here.

Yes it’s a shortcoming of FCPX, I cut and paste the segment into a new project, not ideal I know

I’m new to Roles so I’m not the expert, but it seems to me that Roles is exactly what you need. Roles makes exporting only what you need a painless task.
Assign a unique Role identifier to the clip you want to export, then export Roles and enable only that unique Role name.

On my feature request list.
Export Compound Clip.It’s easy to select a section and make it a compound clip.
It still has to be moved into a new project even though it’s in a timeline form.
If it could be exported directly it would be nearly as simple as selecting in and out and export.This is what I do now.

You can nest into a Compound Clip then trim that to the section you want. Or you could export to Compressor and set in/out points there. (Roles wouldn’t do the trick because they will still export the whole timeline.)
