  • how to export a sequence with clips

    Hi

Im currently working for a travel organisation and i have been making short promo films for them on and off for the last 3 years. Lats year i went to Borneo and made a film and i edited it on a 1tb hard drive, with all the footage and edits i have only 200GB left. This year i went back out to Borneo to make another film but for a different client.

My problem is that i want to take the sequence of the main film over to a new hard drive but don’t just want to export the quicktime mov. i want to have the complete edit with all the individual edits and clips so i can go in and re edit it with the new footage for the new client.

Is there a quicker way to export all of this information rather than going through each individual clip finding it in batch capture and exporting it onto the new hard drive to avoid having media offline?

I would be very grateful of any help.

    Many thanks

Select the sequence you want to move, then open the media manager to copy the sequence and it’s clips to a new project file. Select the location for the copies to go and presto…

The procedure you are after is accessed via FCP’s “Media Manager” interface … you select the sequence in your project, then choose File menu > Media Manager… this will open the Media Manager window where you’d want to choose to “Copy” your media, tick the checkbox for “Delete unused media from duplicated items”, tick the checkbox for “Use Handles” (optional but recommended), tick the checkbox for “Duplicate selected items and place into a new project” … then click the “Browse…” button and target your new hard drive as the destination for the copied and trimmed media, and finally click “OK” and save the new project file on your local hard disc (and I’d recommend when the process is complete and you’re all done then make a copy of that project file on the new hard drive too for safety).

Probably a good idea to remove the old media drive after all this, the open the new project you’ve just created and watch through the edit sequence to make sure that everything is where it should be … there are plenty of surprises in Borneo, you don’t need any unexpected ones from your FCP project once you get there.

    Cheers

    Hi Michael,
You need to use the Media Manager.
Have a look to the manual and ask if there is something that you don’t understand.
    Cheers,
