  • How to export a .flv file from Avid Media Composer

I am working on a project that needs to be uploaded to the web, and I have never had to export for Flash before. So sorry if this sounds amateur but I am still learning the ropes.

So my question is, how do I take my file from Avid Media Composer and export a .FLV file? I notice that there doesn’t seem to be an option in the export window. Any help you can give I would greatly appreciate. Thank you!

Well my Media composer came with a third party system called Soreson Squeeze. If you click on your sequence go to file then click send to; click encoding; if the option soreson squeeze appears click on that make your settings. Then export it out. Once inside soreson there should be an option to change to flash.

    Brittney,

The best web files are created by a third-party product, not a video editing program. Some tweaking of the settings may be necessary to obtain the best look.

Ryan’s comment above is certainly a path many people take – Sorenson works very nicely. I use a variety of products but they all start with Exporting your sequence from the Avid and making a .mov file.

There are many options out there. I like Adobe Media Encoder. It has some presets that can be tweaked and it makes a nice file. If you have After Effects you can also create an FLV from there – but that is kind of like using a sledgehammer to tap in a nail.

Thank you both for your advice. I do own the Adobe program as well. Is there a difference in result or difficulty in the two programs, Sorenson or the Adobe Media Encoder?

I have more luck with Adobe. Seems to be easier to customize, but I have never used Sorenson for Flash files.
