February 7, 2011 at 1:22 amI played with sharpen luma and sharpen RGB. The RGB option was interesting because it gave control over the sharpening based on a dominant color. The shot I played with was a snow covered mountain range in the distance and I was trying to sharpen it through atmospheric haze without making the foreground greens (apple orchard) go all electronic. I was able to get the bluish mountains to sharpen that way.
In the past I have used the Lyric Masked sharpening to help out of focus shots. A lot depends on noise with any of these tools of course.

February 13, 2011 at 2:02 amJust to let everyone know – I wound up going with the lyric stuff. It seemed to be the best for the price. I did not even try Fx Factory pro as I did not want to fall in love with something that expensive and then have to settle for something cheaper. Fx factory could readily be better but I am very satisfied and almost shocked at how good the lyric stuff is.
