  • how to drag to overwrite?

Posted by John Graves on July 20, 2007 at 5:20 pm

    Basic ABC question…

Hey, I’m dragging some elements around on the timeline. When I drop them (without changing their tracks), it tends to split some of my regions apart (on other tracks!), like an insert. How can I drag stuff on the timeline and not have it insert and create a gap?

    thanks

I don’t know the hard fast rule of how it works, but if you’re dragging something and it has a right arrow, you will preform an insert edit (split tracks). If you have a down arrow it will to an overwrite edit.

Usually if you’re cursor is on the lower part of a track, you will have the down arrow (overwrite). If it’s on the upper part, it will be the right arrow (insert).

You can also change from one to another by holding down the option key before you drop it.
