@ the end of this sweet spot you see the words “Quite Frankly- With Stephen A Smith” come to life. By “life” I mean that have a reflection that swoops across the letters, they have a nice gradient to them, and they look more alive opposed to just taking After Effects Text Tool and typing the same words and having them just be boring and stagnant.

Can anybody offer some easy ways to get that same look on my text?

Whats the best way to do a nice gradient treatment on the text?

Oh and how do they do reflections across the words?

    Thanks!

Are we missing a link, or is it me?

    Type your text in AE.

Make sure your text layer is selected in the timeline.

    Go to Effect-Render-Ramp

That should give you a gradient. You’d need to adjust the control points, colours, etc. but it should give you a starting point. (Try adding an Effect-Perspective-Bevel Alpha, then Effect-Image Control-Colorama and choosing one of the gold presets; instant, shiny 3d, sort of! Animate the angle of the light in the bevel and watch coolness unveil.)

CC Lightsweep which comes with AE 6.5 will get you that sweep of light across your layer, in this case your text layer.
