  • How to Do THIS MUSIC VIDEO effect.

Posted by Brad Tuitt on June 20, 2012 at 10:57 am

ive always wondered how to do the effect where the video looks like its going in fast foward but the persons lips are sync with the song still.

The only logical way i can think of to do this would be to make a slowed down version of the song for when you are filming and then speed it up when you edit. The effect im trying to achieve is similar to this in this video. Any help would be great.

It looks like they shot it like stop-motion animation, only with actors and full scale sets. So they took maybe 12 frames per second by posing the actor for each frame and taking a picture. They would have had to have time it out beforehand.

This is pretty easy. When shooting, you slow down the music to half speed and have them sing along with the slowed down music as they are moving at normal speed. Then in post, change the speed of the video to double (2x) and you have the music playing at the correct speed with the world twice as fast but the lips are in sync with the music.

    John beat me to it.

I was going to suggest the same. I believe MTV videos made it popular in the previous decade.

Yes, you were correct. Sometimes things that look difficult have a simple answer. 😉

I guess this is how they made that Beastie Boys video

It always seemed to me that the Boys were kind of 0.5 slower than normal in this one 🙂
