How To Do ‘Folding Text’ Effect?
Hi Again,
In the following video for a hotel chain, they use a ‘folding text’ effect at 11 sec, 19 sec, at at the end.

I’ve had a look at some YouTube tutorials but haven’t come across this.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

I don’t recall Vegas having that text effect, but you could render just the media generated text you want to unfold as uncompressed with alpha, then import that video back in, set that track to “3D Source Alpha”, Then right click on that video event, properties, media, and set the alpha channel to “straight (unmatted), so Vegas recognizes the transparent alpha channel, then keyframe the movement to look the same as in the YouTube video.

You could also get the same effect by adding one of the standard transitions of Vegas to the text event. Or you could use the pro type titler.

Okay, thanks – I’ll try these ideas. It’s a little disappointing that mighty Vegas doesn’t have this as standard, but then it would be common-place I guess. Pros & cons. 😉

Sure it does. You just use 3D Track Motion to rotate that line of text into view. You could even spin it around 360 degrees while you’re at it. It’s very simple to do in Vegas using 3D Track Motion.

You’re right! I found a video on YouTube about how to use 3D Track Motion and indeed, it’s easy. The only issue I have now is that it rotates from the center, so I’m still trying to figure out how to get it to rotate (like swing) from the top or bottom.
