  • How to delete unwanted space between layers ?

Posted by Bernhard Rieder on May 25, 2007 at 2:38 am

    Hello friends !

I have a long video footage from my family – I’ve cutted with duplicating layers. At the end of 25 minutes, I do have about 15 layers – wopaaa.

After making the movie, I could find some mistakes, I would like to change. For this, I have to make some parts of the little video shorter, and so I have to cut.

After 1 minute, I have to cut and so on.
By doing this I get always unwanted space between the part I am cutting, and the part which will follow.

Hmmm.. I was searching, but couldn’t find a solution for.
Is there any shortcut, where the unwanted space between the two parts will be automaticly filled with the following part of the movie ?

Thx a lot for every little help !

    hmmm… that sounds brutal…

It seems you are trying to use AE as if it is a video editing software… which makes what you want to do VERY difficult.

Off hand… if was me… I would import your completed AE created composit into a editing software and do what you are trying to do in about 1/5 the time it would take using AE.

That being said… if you going to use AE… the only solution that comes to mind is to rebuild each layer to eliminate the spaces. I know that is not much help… hopefully, someone else has a better idea. Unforutunately-or-fortunately, I am not experienced at trying to do what your are trying to do because I would use an editing software to attempt what your are attempting…heck, even the MicroSoft freebie would probably work – assuming your using Windows.

    Hello,

I think time sequence layers will do this for you, as it will auto sequence the clips without gaps. I can’t get to my pc to tell you how exactly to get to that sequence option. As I’m in a hospital bed after kidney surgery complications. I think you right click on the after effects clip. Or go into the help and look or sequence layers by pressing f1 on your keyboard or go to the tab about etc on the end.

Hope that helps have a great day.

For things like this you should be using your NLE, something like Premiere Elements or Final Cut Pro (Mac Users). After Effects is NOT video editing software but honestly sometimes I wish some elements from NLE software would be included as AFX doesn’t work to well with long clips.
