  • How to cut text from a rectangle with rounded corners?

I need to cut text from a rectangle with rounded corners, allowing the background to show through where the text was. I converted the text using Type>Create Outlines, then removed it from the rectangle behind it using Object>Compound Path>Make. My problem is that the rounded corners property applies to the text cutout… how can I do this and have the text shape be unchanged?

You want to expand appearance to get apply the effect that rounds the rectangle before doing the compound.
