  • How to cut at the begining w/o making a mess

Posted by Hector Melendez on November 17, 2008 at 10:54 pm

Besides I think I know PP CC3 very well, this dude became to me.
I already finished editing a wedding and noticed that I need to delete a few clips from the beginning of the timeline.
The case is if I delete it these clips and do a ripple delete all the sound effects or inserted clips in the 3rd and 4th audio/video tracks go out of sync. In other words, there is a mess in all of the project.

Then, there is any chance to make this cuts w/o having to re-edit all again?
    thanks in advance

Can’t you just highlight the clips don’t want and press delete – and then ctrl+a select the remaining clips and drag it to the left, to the beginning of the timeline?

    Perhaps I’m misunderstanding your question.

Well, I have to recognize I didn’t made the question clear enough
but anyway you understand it well. Yes, this could be a way to avoid
    the problem I was confronting.
    THANKS very much. Very appreciate!!

    Hi Hector,

In the Premiere preview window, you can mark the IN and OUT points of the area you wish to cut, then click the EXTRACT button. This will delete everything between IN and OUT, and close the gap in one action. Hover your mouse over various buttons below window to see labels to identify these tools, or check HELP.

Important note – on left of timeline, where track labels are, they are typically dark gray, but sometimes a few tracks may be “highlighted” light gray – in this case, ONLY the highlighted tracks are deleted/moved, and this WILL throw sync out on other tracks. BE SURE to click on light gray tracks to make them dark gray (all match) before doing an Extract. If you make a mistake, then just UNDO with CTRL-Z and do it over, no problems.

Also, make sure no tracks are locked before doing this action

I use this a LOT in wedding edits
