Is there any way to create your own custom template?

I would like to create a custom-sized video (420 x 242, 16:9). I set the size in the Project Properties dialog box, and then when I go to render, I select the “Match project video aspect ratio” checkbox in the Render As dialog.

At that point, the Render button at the bottom deactivates, and I can’t proceed.

Is this simply something I cannot do?

    Thank you for all replies.

    [Ron Whitaker] “I would like to create a custom-sized video (420 x 242, 16:9). “

What dimensions you are allowed to use is determined by the codec you want to use. Some codecs can create video with any dimensions. Other codecs need the dimensions to be in multiples of 8 or 16, still others only support a few very specific resolutions.

So what codec are you trying to use?

What version of Vegas are you using? I’m not familiar with that option.

I’m wanting to render it as an .MP4 (Sony AVC).

I’m using the Sony Vegas Movie HD Studio Plantinum 11.0.

Oh, OK. What you want to do is select a template that is close to what you want, then press Customize Template… button to modify to your liking.

Note: You may have to move the scroll bars on the Render As… window to reveal the Customize Template… button. Like this:

Then on the Video tab select Frame size: (Custom frame size) and set the Width and Height to 420 and 242 respectively. Like this:

Don’t forget top save this under a new name so you can use it again later from the list for templates.
