I guess you can direct this wuestion to any video editing program, but I’m asking it here because I use premiere pro.

It’s most probably simple, but I wanted to know how you create a choppy effect in video editing. Here’s a sample of what I mean:

It doesn’t seem like a speed thing… it seems as if it’s either skipping some frames or freezing every split second. I like the effect.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

It looks like it is simply strobed (which is what essentially what you thought it was).

I work on Avid so I couldn’t tell you how to strobe in Premiere but I am sure if you search for Strobe in the Premiere help file you will find your answer.

In Premiere Pro go to the ‘Time’ folder in the Effects tab and choose ‘Posterize Time’. Try a frame rate of about 6 to start and then adjust from there.

Nice! Exactly what I wanted in order to create a choppy, more chaotic action scene. Thanks!

PS: Isn’t it cool that you can answer someone’s question and 11 years later someone finds it useful and chimes in to say thanks? I think this “internet” thing might not be a fad after all!

You like deranged skeletons, puppets, and jokes?

Isn’t it even cooler that I’m still tracking this post even after asking it 11 years ago? 🙂

Isn’t it EVEN cooler that I’m from the year 2525, man is still alive, and I’m looking for how to create a choppy effect on Premiere: MARS Edition? :p

This is amazing, thank you for the tip. It also works perfectly on After Effects. I am applying the Cartoon Style Effect + CC Plastic to create that cartoon look, but with the choppy effect gives that awesome finish I was missing.

    Thank you!!
