  • How to create a 2.35 matte

I am trying to create a 2.35:1 matte for a 4k (4096×2160) piece of footage. What’s the exact pixel count for this?

    Thanks!

    4096/2.35=1742.
So actual visible area would be 4096×1742.

Use even numbers for the matte.

Here’s a handy web app that calculates your resolution after inputting your horizontal and vertical aspect ratios (2.35:1) and at least one of your resolution variables (either height or width):

It’s for those of use not as smart at the maths as Ann! 🙂 But Ann’s formula is doing exactly the same thing as the calculator I linked to (only difference, I can bookmark a link).
