  • How to convert 4:3 video to 16:9

    Hello everybody,

I’m having problem with converting 4:3 format to 16:9 in Premiere Pro 7. I found one post that said “Create a new 16:9 project, import your 4:3 footage, scale 130% for the vertical and 135% for the horizontal.” But how do I do that, when I select my clip there is only one option I found in “Motion – Scale” where you can change scale, but only simetrical (X and Y together)…

Is there any other way, without loosing footage quality, of course??

I would probably just scale until it fits. You will no doubt loose the crispness of the video due to interlacing issues.
If all the footage is 4:3, I would make the project as a 4:3 Project and make a mask to letterbox it off. In which case you will no doubt want to reframe some of the shots, to avoid loosing res doing this move your clips up or down in 8 pixel blocks. If you dont do this it will upset the interlacing and you picture will look soft. (this is for pal but I imagine its the same or similar). Very easy to spot on a video monitor, more difficult on PC screen.

By increasing scale by those proportions it will wreck your footage resolution.

Toolfarm have a sale on Boris’s Uprez $49.50 down from $99.00. I haven’t it tried it but it could be worth it.

FYI- to unlink scale uncheck ‘Uniform Scale’
