  • How to connect spring to two object?

    Hi all,

I’ve been having a play in C4D, creating the Pixar lamp. The design has springs and I’m wanting to know how to connect the spring to two objects that work with an IK rig.

I tried using Xpresso to connect the spring helix height to the objects position, which works; however when i use the controller for the IK rig, it decides not to.

I have the spring dynamics activated and it allows me to target object A and B and the preview works like a charm. Is there a way to use that preview information to apply to my spring?

    Thanks

    Hi Carl,

Can you attached a sample scene?

    Hi Michael,

    I have figured it out.

Firstly, I converted the helix into a null and made that the parent of the helix.

I then did the same for Bolt A and B, but made these the child of the objects.

I opened Xpresso, added the bolts and the helix and did the following in the screenshot. Once this was done, I applied a constraint tag to the Helix Null and ticked “Transform”. In the Transform tab I made sure PRS were all turned on and I targeted this to Bolt A.

On the helix I applied another constraint tag, but this time ticked “Aim” and targeted Bolt B.

Its now working just like the spring dynamic.
