How to color correct/remove too much light from part of a frame
Hey All,
I am working on a film right now and I am stumped. Here is my issue, the clip I was given was very poorly lit on production, the key light is obviously a key light. Ideally I would like to remove/diffuse/color correct so that it is not so noticeable. I have avid, FCP, and AE at my disposal, I just don’t know which one can do the job – or if its even possible!
I tried to Limit Effect Color Correct in FCP and couldn’t get a change. I thought about cloning the normal looking areas in order to replace the extremely lit ones, however the DP moves the camera in a very odd way which would make tracking difficult.

If the area isn’t completely clipped you might try to make an adjustment layer with the proper color settings and roto it out manually.

If at least one of the RGB channels isn’t clipped, you’d be able to mitigate that blown-out key light by copying it to the clipped channels to recover a little detail.

Thats exactly what I have been attempting to do, it takes forever. But at least I have been able to isolate certain areas in order to manually color correct them.
What do you mean by clipped?
