Just a minor thing. I am working with 25-50 fps, why do I have to make a new timeline to change the editing timebase on my stuff ? Seems like I can only do this change before having clips in my timeline.

Depends on the version of FCP, I think, but, generally, you should create a new sequence with the correct settings and then copy-paste your other work into it.
