how to change 4:3 comp to anamorphic
I have SD 16:9 anamorphic material situated in a 4:3 sequence so that the 16:9 material shows up as letterboxed. (the decision to do this was made way before me)
I now have to uprez and output to 1080i. If I take a fully anamorphic sequence with anamorphic material (no letterboxing), it scales up beautifully – 225%.
I can change the sequence settings to anamorphic but I cannot change the clip settings of the footage that is already in the sequence (despite clicking on the check mark in the “item properties” window that is brought up when I ctrl-click on the clip itself in the sequence).
any idears ?

Change the value of the “Distort” setting in the “Motion” tab.
Once you’ve got it right, Paste Attributes to apply it to all the clips that need to be fixed.

answered my own question – here is one way to do it:
the anamorphic check box is simply telling FCP to change the aspect ratio by -33.33
1.if you double click on a clip in the sequence, it will load it into the viewer. Under the motion tab, twirl down the aspect ratio category, and change the -33.33 to 0
2. Make sure the clip is still selected and hit apple-c to copy this attribute.
3 select all clips in the sequence you want to change and from the edit drop down menu choose “paste attributes” and choose “distort” from the dialogue box that comes up.
This has stumped me for years – if you know of a simpler way, please let me know. (nesting a 4:3 sequence in an anamorphic sequence does not work as far as I can tell)
