  • How to bring a DPX sequence from Adobe SpeedGrade back into Premiere Pro

Posted by Giacomo Turitiani on July 6, 2012 at 9:31 am

    Hello all,

I am currently working on a project and these are all the steps I took so far:

I have worked on a video with Premiere Pro. Then I decided I wanted to make some changes using Adobe SpeedGrade. So I used the dedicated option into Premiere (File -> Send to Adobe SpeedGrade…) I sent everything to SpeedGrade. I made all the changes I waned on the video. When I completed my work with SpeedGrade I went to Output I chose the DPX format I selected a folder where to put all the DPX files and and then I clicked the Render button. When the rendering was completed I noticed the SpeedGrade created all DPX files into the folder I selected.

    Here is my problem:
Now that I finished to work with SpeedGrade I want to be able to apply all changes I made to the video in Premiere Pro in order to keep working on the project using Premiere Pro. The problem is that I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know how to bring the new DPX sequence from Adobe SpeedGrade back into Premiere Pro. The only think I can do is to look into the folder where are all DPX files created by SpeedGrade and open everyone of them one by one….but of course those are like pictures. In other words how do I apply all changes I made to the video with SpeedGrade into the sequence I have in Premiere Pro?
Please be specific in the steps I have to take.

Hope I have been clear in my explanation, in case not just let me know.
I am quite in a rush with this project, I hope you can give me some hint quickly.
Thank you in advance for your help
    G

I haven’t really jumped into SpeedGrade yet so I’m not sure but perhaps either an EDL or XML file exchange? Export it out of SpeedGrade and import into Premiere.

    Thanks Matthew.

I tried….same problem. I don’t know how to use the videos I modified with SpeedGrade in Premiere Pro.
In addition I need to use specifically the DPX format.

    Look at this link:
    https://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-speedgrade-cs6/exporting-to-speedgrade/

The guy specifically said after minute 3.30 : “…you can bring a DPX sequence back into premiere pro for further work…”
Now, how do I do that? I am missing just this step.

Can you help me? can anybody help me?
    Unfortunately is quite urgent.
    Thanks!
    G.

    Giacomo,

I came across this thread on the Cow and I think it will help. Also, the adobe page linked within could be very helpful as well. Basically the general idea I gather is to render out your clips in SpeedGrade and then use the Replace Footage function in Premiere Pro to reconnect your clips to the graded media. Hope this helps!

Basically I think the best way is to go to Premiere, get to the bin you want, hit import and navigate to your DPX files. Then click the first one and check the checkbox at the bottom of the import window marked “Still image sequence” or something like that. It will import a movie made out of the DPX files. Enjoy!

were you ever able to figure out how to relink your DPX files? Or did you ever come up with a decent workflow that worked to roundtrip your footage?
