  • How to avoid fuzzy/ugly lines on credits/text?

    Hello.

Is it possible to get rid of those ugly/fuzzy lines that appear on all text (despite using thick fonts, a bit of shadowing, etc.) that you insert in your video project? There must be a way to make professional looking motion graphics for monitors, I mean, all the ones on the web (the trailers for movies for example) look fine…

    Hi,
If you have AE take a look at its text engine. If not, there is an article on the Cow on how to use titles properly.

The biggest problem with text is interlaced video. Depending
on the placement, size and/or movement text will flicker or
look a little fuzzy. I’ve found that PPro 1.5 is aweful at
moving text because there is no pixel per second(velocity)
control. AE is great, but you don’t have the titler so Photoshop
needs to be used to create the cool text. I can’t remember
the formula exactly, but I think it is:

The speed of the text must be an even multiple of the field
rate. Of course for NTSC this means that text moves really fast.
My solution has been to live with a little blur and move the
text at a rate of 1*field rate.

The meyer’s book (volume 2) has a good section on this.

    Mark
